Values
-
Anti-oppression: We are a politicized space. This means we are working to deconstruct and disinherit a white-dominant mental health and cultural system, and instead strive to honor our cultural traditions and ancestral wisdom. We intentionally aim to divest from white supremacy, cisheteronormative patriarchy, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia, ableism, casteism, xenophobia, colorism, fatphobia, and oppressions of groups of people in any form. As such, we acknowledge our own complicity as settler colonialists who have contributed harm to indigenous communities, to anti-Blackness at a diasporic level, and other layers of oppression.
-
Responsiveness: We as an organization value being responsive to the needs of the group as they shift and arise.
-
Relationships: We value relationships - the relational over the transactional.
-
Learning: We are clinicians who value curiosity, learning, and continual clinical and personal growth to better serve our clients.
-
Diversity: We value the whole humanity of practitioners, including their food, music, conversation, rituals, milestones, and other markers of relationships.
-
Leadership: We value the development of leadership within our group, either within a member’s therapeutic profession or in taking leadership positions within SABHI; we intentionally support and facilitate that relationship-building.
-
Transparency: We value transparency regarding the structure and operation of SABHI.
